Mary Elizabeth (Hall) Rankin went to meet her Maker on March 6, 2013. Mary was born November 28, 1928 in Lemmon, South Dakota to Floyd C. and Marian (Groat) Hall. She attended country school in Chance, South Dakota and Lemmon High School. She taught country school for 2 years. She and her sister, June attended Sioux Valley Nursing School where she received her R. N. degree. Mary was a nurse at Canton, S.D.; in Denver, CO; in Casper, WY; in Powell, WY; and Elementary School Nurse in the Natrona County School System in Casper, WY, for about 20 years.

Ilma G. Gabriel, 90, of rural Faith, South Dakota, died on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Ilma was born on June 7, 1922, in Bayard, Nebraska, to George and Gertrude (Imus) Hanna. She grew up near Chimney Rock of Nebraska and later near Wounded Knee, South Dakota, with 6 brothers and sisters.

Dona Mae Mitchell, age 77, of Elko, Nevada, died March 20, 2013, in Elko, Nevada.

Clifford Dean Keyser, age 82, of Rapid City, S.D., passed away March 15, 2013 in his home.
Clifford, son of Lowell and Mayme Keyser, was born February 25, 1931, at Grindstone, at his Grandparents Keyser's home on Ash Creek with his Grandmother Keyser and Grandmother Burjes as midwives.
He grew up in the Dowling-Ash Creek area of Haakon County, northwest of Philip. He attended the first two grades of his elementary education in Philip and the remainder of his elementary education in rural schools, attending Quinn High School in Quinn. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954.

Esther Long, age 89, of Hettinger, N.D., formerly of Philip, S.D., died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Western Horizon Care Center in Hettinger, N.D.
Esther Pauline Clawson was born March 6, 1924, in Sheridan, Wyo., the daughter of Cecil Ransom and Sarah Ethel (Shaw) Clawson.
She grew up on her parents’ homestead near Arvada, Wyo., graduated from Gillette High School and the Gillette Normal School (for a teaching certificate) in 1942 and then furthered her education in teaching at Black Hills State College in Spearfish.

Lyle Klundt, age 79 of Kadoka, S.D., died Monday, March 18, 2013, at his residence.
Lyle Eugene Klundt was born February 10, 1934, at Herrick, the son of Leon and M. Louise (Dunn) Klundt. He grew up on a farm near Herrick and received his education at a rural school in that area.
At the age of 19, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on September 9, 1955.
Lyle was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Malmberg on April 28, 1961, in Gregory. They made their home in Gregory where their two children, Arlys and Cindy, were born.

Carol Naescher, age 55 of Oacoma, S.D., died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain.
Carol Ann Pederson was born June 23, 1957 in Nuremberg, Germany, the daughter of Gordon Roy and Betty Lou (Ballard) Pederson of Wall. Graduating in 1975, Carol attended Wall High School where she made many friends, was a cheerleader and excelled on its track team whose records can still be seen on the gymnasium walls of the school. She then attended two years of college at Huron.

On March 11, 2013, Mary Rose Kasten Haughian died peacefully at Holy Rosary Extended Care.
She was born on June 26, 1925, to Richard and Mary Ellen (Dwyer) Kasten in the upstairs of Mrs. Ryan’s dress shop in Ismay, Mont. Bob Askin and Patty Ryan said she was the prettiest baby ever born in Ismay. Her brother Joe was born three years later.

Will Schofield, age 58, of Midland, S.D., died March 15, 2013, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
William Ray Schofield was born November 6, 1954, in Pierre, the son of Harry H. “Hank” and Eva Pauline (Fosheim) Schofield. He was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Midland. He attended school through 10th grade in Midland.

Services for Earl J. “E.J.” Root, 88, a longtime Casper, Wyo., resident were held March 12, 2013, at the Oregon Trail Veteran
Cemetery, Evansville, Wyo., with military honors.
He died March 6, 2013, at Central Wyoming Hospice after a lengthy illness.
Earl, the eldest son of seven children was born in Capa, S.D., to Earl Charles Root and Helen Elizabeth (Waller) Root, on June 22, 1924. He was raised and educated in Midland, South Dakota. While attending High School he was active in sports, lettering in both football and basketball.
