Irene Fortune

Irene Fortune, age 94, of Philip, South Dakota , died August 7, 2012, at the Philip Nursing Home.

Irene Clements was born April 20, 1918, in Haakon County, South Dakota, the daughter of Ernest and Elfreida (Meyers) Clements. She grew up and attended rural schools in the area. During her high school years, she lived with Mrs. Senechal in Philip. She learned many things from her, including cooking and cleaning.


Maxine “Mick” O’Reilly

Maxine “Mick” O’Reilly, age 84 of Murdo, died Monday, August 6, 2012, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Maxine May “Mick” Thorson was born February 11, 1928, at Philip, S.D., the daughter of Joe and Cora (Hovey) Thorson. She grew up on her parents’ farm in the Grindstone area. She graduated from Philip High School in 1945. She received her teaching certificate from Black Hills State in Spearfish and taught rural school in Haakon County for two years.

Bison and Reva area Emergency Medical Technicians

The two vehicle, five victim car accident at the junction of Highway 20 and 75 (Matthew’s Corner) on July 25th certainly looked real to the passing traffic as two wreckers, two ambulances and one highway patrol car all had lights flashing. Many stopped to offer their help. It seemed pretty real to the EMTs gathered for class that evening as Jody Moody, EMT and highway patrol on duty was at class and received the call for help from the sheriffs office. He instructed all staff and both ambulances to come to the scene.


Cap Man!

Cap Man. This vehicle has been covered in bottle caps. The owners of the pickup said they have collected bottle caps and friends have also contributed to the cause. They are glued on with silicone. (Bet they don’t like bottle openers.)


Sixty celebrations for 60th anniversary

Bob and Audrey Singer will be married 60 years this coming December 12. That may be notable, but how they are celebrating may be even more so. Between now and then, they will hold 60 miniature celebrations.
Their first was a triple date with two other couples at the Gem Theatre, Sunday, July 29. The very first movie that Audrey saw was “Gone With the Wind” in the Gem Theatre.


Meta Radley Dabney

Meta Radley Dabney, 94, a 59-year resident of Nevada passed away Tuesday, July 24.
Meta was born on June 22, 1918, in Ash Creek, S.D. She raised her children in Henderson and later moved to Pahrump where she lived for 45 years.
She was a dedicated amateur Radio Emergency Service Operator since 1990 and never failed to call in every day. She wrote many interesting letters in her beautiful impeccable handwriting to all her friends.
She played the piano by ear and loved entertaining the family with songs of yesterday.

Eagles in Europe

On June 28, 2012 high school Social Studies teacher Mr. Ermish and seven students from Wall High School took off from Rapid City for Paris France. Traveling on the eleven day tour of France and Italy where seniors Cheyenne Deering, Heidi Huether, Anna Kitterman, junior Kailey Rae Sawvell, sophomore Kaden Eisenbraun, freshmen Tayah Huether, and Autumn Deering. Cheyenne and Kaden also traveled to China in 2011 with Mr. Ermish.


Old barn finds new home

Albert and Lil Albert Keller are watching their barn cross Giles Creek on the way to its new home. It continued down the Haynes Road and crossed the North Grand River and on to its new home at the Keller Ranch. The barn was built in the late 1920s and was moved in the late 1960s to the Adolph Hermann Ranch.


7th Annual Badlands Match Bronc Riding August 17 in Kadoka

The Badlands Match Bronc Riding is once again coming to Kadoka on August 17th, 2012. This will be the 7th year of this stand alone bronc riding event that has been mentioned, by the fans and bronc riders, as being one of the top Saddle Bronc Riding Matches in the State of South Dakota. Bronc Riding fans from all over the state travel to Kadoka to attend this event every year.


Christoph D. “Chris” Reimann

Christoph D. “Chris” Reimann, 73, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Rapid City Hospice House.
He was born November 16, 1938, in Midland, S.D., to Rudolph and Margaret (Gillaspie) Reimann. He grew up on the family farm southeast of Midland and attended rural schools through the eighth grade, graduating from Midland High School and received a B.S in Secondary Education from BHSU.
