Albert “Junior” Steen

Longtime Faith area rancher and beekeeper, Albert Steen Jr., 88, died peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of February 10, 2013 at the Fort Meade VA Hospital near Sturgis, SD.
Service of Remembrance was held Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Fort Meade Chapel at Fort Meade, SD. Rev. Harold Delbridge officiated and inurnment of Albert's and his wife Lila's ashes was held at the Black Hills National Cemetery south of Sturgis, SD.


Mildred Lorraine (Veal) Smith

Mildred Lorraine (Veal) Smith, 87, of Corpus Christi Texas, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013. Mildred was born on December 19, 1925 at home in Chance, South Dakota to the late Boyd and Mabel (Iverson) Veal. She attended grade school in Chance and first year of high school in Faith, South Dakota and finished and graduated from Bison High School in 1943 and went on to Business College in Rapid City, South Dakota. She was employed at the Rapid City Air Base for several years. That is where she met Elwood Smith and they were married January 23, 1946.


Hans E. Hanson

Hans E. Hanson, age 91 of Philip, S.D., died Friday, February 15, 2013, at the Philip Nursing Home.
Hans E. Hanson was born November 17, 1921, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Martin and Lizzie Hanson. He grew up on a farm near Mt. Vernon and attended rural schools, prior to graduating from Mt. Vernon High School in 1939.


Dennis Lund

Dennis Lund, age 62 of Wall, S.D., died February 11, 2013, at his home.
Dennis P. Lund was born May 22, 1950, the son of Pete and Ruth (Lehr) Lund. He grew up and received his education in Alpena, graduating from Alpena High School in 1968.
Dennis was united in marriage to Theresa Wuestewald on April 23, 1976, in Huron. They later settled in Madison. In 1985, they adopted three daughters, Candy, Justina, and Glenda.
Dennis was an animal lover and a car enthusiast.

Dorothy Mae Fitzgerald

Dorothy Mae Fitzgerald, 91, died January 24, 2013, in Tulsa, OK, from natural causes.
Dorothy Mae was born May 16, 1921, in Philip, S.D., to Benjamin Lafayette and Irene Matilda (Haagensen) Carr. She grew up in Philip and was the 1939 High School Homecoming Queen.

Don Hight

Don Hight, age 92, of Lemmon and formerly of Murdo, South Dakota, died at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon on Sunday, February 10, 2013.


William “Bill” Robert Lee

“Loving husband and father, a true American”
William “Bill” Robert Lee, 81 years young, of Springdale, Ark., formerly of Midland, S.D., succumbed to heart failure at the VA Medical Center’s Palliative Care facility in Fayetteville, Ark., at 6:55 p.m. on February 5, 2013.
Bill was born in Midland to William and Electa Pearl (Johnson) Lee on May 5, 1931, and raised on his dad's homestead, Golden Willow Ranch, north of Ottumwa. He was educated at the Mattison County School where he graduated the eighth grade. Bill finished his schooling by GED while in the military.


Ida Hunt

Ida G. Hunt, age 90, of Midland, S.D., died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at the Philip Nursing Home.


Norma J. Kinsley

Norma Jeane Kinsley, age 91, of Murdo, S.D., passed away Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Philip Nursing Home.
Norma Jeane Ernst was born August 5, 1921, at her parents’ farm south of Draper, the daughter of Adolph and Florence (Cahill) Ernst. She attended Dunkel grade school and, as was common then, she skipped one of the lower grades. She graduated from Draper High School in 1938. She then attended St. John’s McNamara School of Nursing in Rapid City and became a registered nurse. Part of her training was in Milwaukee, Wis.


Muriel J. “Jeannie” Schroeder

Muriel J. "Jeannie" Schroeder, 52, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in Waterloo.
She was born February 12, 1960 in Pierre, South Dakota, daughter of Orville and Verda (Howder) Hurst. She married Dean D. Schroeder on July 7, 1984 in Gillette, Wyoming and they later divorced.
She graduated from Murdo High School in South Dakota and earned her BA degree in Business Administration from the University of Wyoming in 1992. She was employed with Disabled Workers, LLC in Waterloo and was an independent bookkeeper throughout Northeast Iowa.
