City council looking at construction

Members of the Philip City Council were onsite near the city swimming pool to better review options for the additional sidewalk connection from the Shared Use Path Project. The main project, and the additional connection, must consider the sizes, slopes and safety requirements in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

William R. “Bill” Brooks

William R. "Bill" Brooks – March 8, 1920-February 27, 2015 – Pilot Extraordinaire
Bill grew up in Philip, S.D., with his parents Sid and Dorothy and siblings Ralph (Mickey) and Mavis (PD Cauley).
He attended South Dakota State for engineering and then graduated with his pilot's license from the Pensacola Naval Air Station in 1940.


Jerome “Joe” Hoffman

Jerome “Joe” Hoffman, age 78, of Kadoka, S.D., died Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.
Jerome John “Joe” Hoffman was born April 25, 1936, at White Lake, the son of Nick and Minnie Hoffman.
Joe was united in marriage to Carol Ann Spencer on July 3, 1958. He served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1959.
Joe was a lifelong mechanic and worked for Hemmingson Auto, and later owned and operated Joe’s Repair in Kadoka.

McKenzie J. Stilwell

McKenzie J. Stilwell, age 16, of Kadoka, S.D., died April 6, 2015, as a result of a car accident south of Norris.
McKenzie James Stilwell was born on November 22, 1998, in Rapid City to James “Jim” and Jacqueline “Jackie”(Madsen) Stilwell.
He grew up and attended school in Kadoka.
His activities included Honor Student, Student of the month, 4-H, FFA, FCA, football, track, AAU wrestling, basketball, and was a confirmed member of Concordia Lutheran Church.

Jane Springer

Jane Springer, 46, Pierre, S.D., formerly of Murdo, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015, at Avera Maryhouse in Pierre.
Jane Lyn Penticoff was born March 18, 1969, in Kadoka to John “Pete” and Mary June (O’Reilly) Penticoff. She grew up in Murdo and graduated from Jones County High School in 1987. Jane worked at the Star Restaurant as a cook, Murdo Super Valu, Triple H Truck Stop and Pioneer Country Mart as a cashier, and for the Jones County School District as a custodian.


Dale G. Keyser

Dale Gibson Keyser, age 96, Wall, S.D., died Monday morning, April 6, 2015, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.


William R. “Bill” Stone

William R. “Bill” Stone, age 92, Rapid City, S.D., formerly of the Wall area, died March 31, 2015, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
William Robert "Bill" Stone was born Jan. 5, 1923, in Des Moines, Iowa, the only child of Evans W. and Dorothy Grace (Cole) Stone.
He and his mother lived in Los Angeles, Calif., then came back to White Owl, Enning, Sturgis, Wasta and Rapid City. Bill graduated from Rapid City High School. While attending high school, he worked at Swanders Bakery.


Viola “Vi” Moody

Viola "Vi" Moody, age 69, Philip, S.D., died March 29, 2015, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Viola Mae “Vi” Moody was born April 8, 1945, the daughter of Robert H. and Shirley (Rumsey) Lampert. She attended school in Philip and graduated from Philip High School in 1963.


Harold A. Kusick

Harold A. Kusick, age 60, Rapid City, S.D., formerly of Belvidere, died February 16, 2015, in Sioux Falls.
Harold Allen Kusick was born May 4, 1954, in Murdo, the son of Carl and Betty Jane (Smith) Kusick. He grew up on a farm near Stamford and attended grade school in Stamford. Later, the family moved into Belvidere where he attended Belvidere School. As a young man he worked at a local gas station.
Harold was united in marriage to Teresa Barber and to this union was born two children, twins James and John.


Earl R. “Rick” Wilmarth

Earl R. “Rick” Wilmarth, age 68, Kadoka, S.D., died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital
Earl R. “Rick” Wilmarth was born May 7, 1946, in Louisville, Ky., the son of Earl J. and Alice Paxton (Bean) Wilmarth. At the age of three, he moved with his parents to Kadoka where he received his education. He graduated from Kadoka High School in 1964. He then attended General Beadle at Madison, where he earned a bachelor of science in business. He remained in Madison and continued his education, receiving a bachelor of science in education from Dakota State College in 1970.
