Darlene Hatheway

Darlene Hatheway, age 79 of Murdo, S.D., died Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Darlene R. Woodcock was born February 7, 1932, in Murdo, S.D., the daughter of Clarence and Alma (Dobin, Davis) Woodcock. She grew up and received her education in the Okaton area.

She married Harlen Ned Hatheway in 1949 and to this union five children were born. She and Ned lived in the Okaton-Murdo area all of their lives. They both enjoyed and worked in farming and trucking business.


Margaret Crawford

Margaret Crawford, 95, died peacefully April 4, 2011, at South Wind Hospice Home in Pratt, Kan.

She was born October 8, 1915, to Jacob and Edith Koenders DeYoung. Her father had emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States, at which time his name was inadvertently changed from DeJong to DeYoung. She was born on the original family homestead 20 miles north of Midland, S.D., near Ottumwa.

After moving to a new family farm near Midland in 1918, she attended rural schools and graduated from Eureka High School in Haakon County, S.D.
