Private First Class Dallas Lamm is currently stationed in Mississippi.

Lamm is a graduate of Philip High School, and is the son of John Lamm and Tana O'Connor and the grandson of Rudy and Susan Roth.

The Philip Scotties, having earlier defeated the Rapid City Christian Comets, faced off against the Wall Eagles in the second round of the District 14B Basketball Tournament, Thursday, March 3.

The New Underwood Tigers had beaten the Edgemont Moguls 60-26 in the first round. The New Underwood Tigers lost Thursday's conference game against the Oelrichs Tigers 55-56.

At the Philip City Council's regular meeting Monday, March 7, it was announced that there will be no city election this year.

Tom Struble and Greg Arthur have petitioned, with no challengers, to retain their current seats. Monte Palecek did not run for his Ward I seat, and no one petitioned for that position.

The city council wishes to hear from any one who would like to be considered for appointment to Ward I. Candidates must live in the city limits in that ward, which covers the northeast section of Philip.

CHS through the "Harvest for Hunger" program has set a goal of raising enough food, funds and grain to provide one million meals.

A federal mandate which requires all communication radios to be programmed to narrowband frequencies will cost Haakon County less than expected for reprogramming, but will require the spending of additional monies to replace existing unprogammable radios.

Lola Roseth, Haakon County emergency manager, and Curt Rees, Pierre, of Western Communications, updated the Haakon County Commission on the mandate. Rees said the mandate originated due to high populated areas running out of frequency channels.

Currently radios run on 25 kilohertz. The narrowband would drop that to 12.5 kHz.

Charles "Chuck" William Ramsey, 83, Spearfish, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at his home in Spearfish surrounded by his loving family.

Chuck was born October 21, 1927, to Claude and Hilda (Sether) Ramsey at Philip. He attended Jones country school and graduated from Philip High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Philip to ranch until 1971 when he moved the family to Wall.

Grace Ann DeVries went to be with her Lord, Saturday evening, March 5, 2011, surrounded by family and friends.

Grace's commitment to her family, to her Sunday school class, and to her music students was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Grace Ann Dolezal was born on September 9, 1960, in Kadoka, S.D., the daughter of Larry and Joy (Ramey) Dolezal of Belvidere. After graduation from Kadoka High School she was united in marriage to Tom DeVries on August 26, 1978. They made their home in the Belvidere and Midland communities.

A golden heart stopped beating on March 3, 2011, at the Hans P. Peterson Hospital in Philip. Ruby Sammons, who was born August 24, 1917, the daughter of Ellis and Olga (Petersen) Albery, died leaving behind a family that dearly loved her.

Ruby received her education in Reliance and Hermosa, graduating from Reliance, S.D. Ruby and Floyd Sammons were married in Custer on March 24, 1935. They celebrated 72 years of marriage before Floyd passed away in 2007.
