The summer season kick‐off rodeos for the South Dakota Rodeo Association were a grand start for the summer season of rodeo in Wessington Springs and Britton.

The SDRA heads to a big weekend the second week of June with rodeos in Estelline, Highmore and McLaughlin.

This year's Wall Regional High School Rodeo was held June 4-6.

The next and final regional rodeo for the southwest region of the South Dakota High School Rodeo Association will be held June 11-13 in Sturgis.

The annual Couples Golf Tournament was held Sunday, June 6, at the Lake Waggoner Golf Course.

This 18-hole, modified Chapman play tournament included 15 teams. Winners of the non-handicap gross division were Garrett Rembold and Sara Hamilton with a final score of 67. Coming in second were Colt and Jenny Terkildsen with a score of 71. Third place went to Bob and Eva McGlone, who finished with a 75.

In the handicapped net division, Beau and Tara Ravellette won with a score of 56. Ron Coyle and Kay Reckling shot a 57 for second place.

Donald M. Gibson passed away on January 6, 2010, in Pahrump, Nev.

Don was born September 26, 1928, in White Hall, Maryland.

He worked at the 1880 Town near Murdo for many summers.

He is survived by one daughter, Ann Gibson of Maryland; two grandchildren, Alecia Smallbrook of West Virginia and Amanda Smallbrook of Maryland; and two great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Coal Mayle of West Virginia.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 22, at 10:00 a.m. (CT) at the Big Foot Pass Church in Murdo.

Rena Eva Dorcas Cameron, 75, passed away on June 2, 2010.

Dorcas was born near Kadoka, S.D., to Jacob Roger and Rena Peterson on November 4, 1934. She was the third youngest of 14 children. She attended Philip schools.

Dorcas married her first husband, Eugene Reynick, in 1952. They had lived in Minnesota and the Reynick Ranch near Philip, S.D. She married Gerald Cameron on September 10, 1965, in Newcastle, Wyo., and made their home in Rapid City, S.D.

Dorcas retired from Kreseges/ Kmart after 28 years of service. She was an active member of St.

Laurence V. Rubottom, age 86 of Philip, S.D., died Friday, June 4, 2010, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Laurence V. Rubottom was born September 3, 1923, in Alliance, Nebr., the son of Vinton and Nellie (Dodd) Rubottom. He graduated at the age of 16. His love of the land began when he was a youngster. He worked for his sister, Maude, and her husband in the summer on their ranch outside Alliance. He also worked for other ranchers in the same area. He also helped his brother, Vernon, at a dairy outside of Alliance.

Colleen Clements, 79, of 200 Clive Drive SW, Cedar Rapids, died June 5, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

She was born February 10, 1931, in Fremont to Cecil and Wilma Cornell Buchholz. She married John Clements January 30, 1950.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, she lived all of her married life in South Dakota where she retired from the Wall Drug Store in Wall, S.D. She had been a member of St.

"Dr. Coen Klopper was my push to go back to school," said Caroline Fuhrer, a current physicians assistant student at Philip Health Services, Inc. (PHSI).

Fuhrer is receiving hands-on experience during a six-week internship under Klopper's supervision. A student at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, she is enrolled in the School of Health Sciences physician assistant studies program. Fuhrer began at PHSI May 17 and will be working in Philip until June 24.

"Klopper kept telling me that I should be more than a nurse. Now, I am his first student intern.

The Philip City Council began its Monday, June 7, meeting by approving a long list of building permits.

Building and flood plain development permits were approved for Mike and Debbie Clements for a deck and step replacement, and for yard improvement. Nathan Drury plans to replace windows, decks and fence, and do dirt work on a culvert and retaining wall. Dean Fitzgerald plans to replace a fence. Hannah Griffin will remodel and move a current house onto a new basement and add a 40'x32' garage.
