Philip City Council; budget, computers to drainage

The Philip City Council meeting on Monday, October 1, quickly covered update reports from many departments and projects.

Bids were opened for the next five year lease of the 216 acres of farm ground near the municipal airport. The highest of the five bidders was Robert Berry at $5,000 per year beginning in 2008.

The second reading of the budget ordinance was officially recorded.


June Rose Good

June Rose Allard was born June 17, 1924, in Washabaugh County, the oldest of six children born to Carl and Della (Weisenberger) Allard. Rose attended the Pleasant Hill grade school, then high school in Wanblee and Interior. She graduated from Interior in 1944.

June Rose took her basics in Aberdeen, and joined a government program as a nurse cadet traveling by train to Milesville, Montana, where she took her training as a registered nurse from Catholic nuns.


Charles H. Rowcliffe

Charles H. Rowcliffe, age 85, of Philip, died Saturday, September 29, 2007, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 3, at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Mark Ford officiating.

Music for the service was provided by Marilyn Millage, organist, and Glenn Parsons, vocalist. Ushers were Chip Walker and Scott Baye.


John N. "Jack" O'Reilly

John Nobert "Jack" O'Reilly, 85 years young, went to be with the Lord on September 25, 2007, in Miles City, MT.

He was born September 27, 1921, the third of John and Edna (Herman) O'Reilly's six children, in Philip, SD.

He relayed many stories to his family about life growing up on the farm and working for Dan Copps's grocery store after graduating from high school in Philip. After listening in disbelief to the radio reports about the attack on Pearl Harbor, he decided to enlist in the United States Navy and was sworn in July 4, 1942.
