The Philip boys’ varsity golf team went undefeated in the season with six tournament wins by taking the Black Hills Invitational on Monday, May 9th, and the Rocky Knolls on Thursday, May 5th.

Dak Carley put together two great tournaments. He shot a 71 at the Rocky Knolls in Custer – 38 on the front nine holes and 33 on the back nine. At the Black Hills Invitational, played at the Red Rock Golf Course in Rapid City, Carley shot an even 36 on the front nine and came back with a two under 34 on the back nine for a 70 total. Carley was the medalist at both meets.

Margaret Ella Quinn, age 84, of Rapid City, died Friday, May 06, 2005, at the Beverly Healthcare Bella Vista Nursing Home in Rapid City.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, May 9, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Ron Garry as celebrant.

Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery, Philip. Rush Funeral Home of Philip was in charge of the arrangements.

Music was provided by Maureen Palecek, organist/vocalist. Lector was Keith Emerson. Ushers were Rick Borkovec, Joel Harsma and Kevin Bierwagen.

John Mednansky, age 93, of Kadoka, died Sunday, May 08, 2005, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

John Mednansky was born March 10, 1912, in St. Lawrence, SD, the son of Mike and Emma (Michaletz) Mednansky. He grew up and received his education in that area.

Later he owned and operated a radio repair shop in Kadoka for several years before moving to Rapid City. He then purchased a radio/television repair shop in Belle Fourche.

May 15-21 has been declared National Emergency Medical Services Week to bring the field of ambulance crews and other first responders to the public’s attention. The Philip Ambulance Crew has been recognized as one of the best. Midland just completed a month’s long class to train EMT-basics.
