Seven o’clock am and the Philip Scottie Cross-Country team are on their way to the Faith golf coarse. This is the first time in many years that the Scotties have raced in Faith. We needed to see this coarse as the 2004-5 Regional meet will be held here. this coarse, like many others, has been placed around a lake or dreek creating the rolling hills that we have beome acustomed to training around Philip.

Darrell Dean Johnson, 69, Rapid City, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 1, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to the services at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Services will be Friday, September 3, at 10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Moe Greiner officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.

Funeral services for Harriet A. Kittelson, age 97, of Watertown, SD, formerly Hazel and Henry, SD, were held Tuesday, August 31, at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastors Vickie Brown and Kris Brown officiating.

Mrs. Kittelson passed away on August 27, 2004, at a Watertown care center. She was the widow of Elwin Kittelson.

Burial was in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, Henry, SD.

Pallbearers were Harriet’s grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Donald Alfred Gambrel, Jr., 73, of Kennesaw, died Wednesday, August 25, 2004.

Donald Gambrel, Jr., was born in Aberdeen, SD.

Services for Monica M. Wilson were held on Friday, August 6, 2004, at All Saints Catholic Church in Puyallup.

Monica M. Wilson who was born February 26, 1915, in Yale, SD, passed away July 29, 2004.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William M. and Nora Walsh; her husband of 38 years, Joseph A.

First off, my children like school.

My daughter’s teachers do not include any drill sergeants, bored tenured bodies waiting for retirement, or anti-socials who barely put up with kids. My daughter’s classmates have not shown themselves to be bullies, rich snobs, convicts under the age of 18, or drugged-out weirdos. The lunches are fine, the classes are relevant, and the homework is not just busy-work to be thrown away.

After over 16 years as a growing part of Philip, the Dakota Case Company will be closing this fall.

The remaining ten full-time employees have been offered incentives to remain until the existing orders are filled and close-down is completed.

The market for metal jewelry boxes has also changed. Now the boxes are considered throw-away items after the jewelry is purchased.

Mrs. Dawn Backman (Miss Dawn to pre-schoolers, Mrs. Backman to other students) has been hired as the Haakon Elementary School’s new pre-school to sixth grade special education teacher.

Scheduled to work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; she will also work downtown in a private pre-school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The exact number of students under her school supervision is still being determined through referrals and evaluations.

She has taught for ten years.
