Thelma Lewton_________________________________

Thelma (Eichenburger) Lewton, 70, died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Thelma was born May 6, 1943, in Sturgis, S.D., to Robert and Laura (Harrington) Eichenburger. She attended schools in Sturgis and Nisland. Thelma lived in Nisland with her parents until she moved to Washington state for a short time to reside with her sister Dorothy and husband Loren Turnidge.

Raymond W. Dean______________________________

Raymond W. Dean, age 94, of Rapid City, S.D., formerly of Grindstone, died Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the Fountain Springs Healthcare in Rapid City.
Raymond William Dean was born June 12, 1919, at Grindstone on his parents’ homestead. He was the first born child of Jack and Theresa (Poste) Dean. There were four children born to the family and they all helped on the farm where they were raised. Raymond finished schooling through the eighth grade at the Dean Elementary School which was located approximately one mile southeast of the Dean homestead.

Marilyn Ann Reynick_____________________________

Memorial services for Marilyn Ann Reynick, age 76, who died on December 10, 2013, at the Goshen Care Center in Torrington, Wyo., will be held at the Care Center for employees, friends and family on Thursday, December 19, at 10:30 a.m.
Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with cremation and private family burial of the ashes will take place at a later date in Philip, S.D. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Marilyn’s memory to the Goshen Care Center.

Richard “Dick” Pinney___________________________

Richard “Dick” Pinney, age 70, of Kadoka, S.D., died Sunday, December 15, 2013, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Richard Frank “Dick” Pinney was born May 20, 1943, in Bennett County, the son of James and Mildred (Morsett) Pinney. He grew up in the old Washabaugh and Jackson counties, receiving his education at the Sand Hills Rural School, Wanblee, before finishing his education in Kadoka.
At the age of 17, he joined the Army National Guard.

Margaret A. “Mickie” Hewlett______________________

Margaret A. “Mickie” Hewlett, 70, Philip, S.D., died Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Mickie was born December 30, 1942, in Glendive, Mont., to Harold and Lucille (Johnson) Adkins and was raised on their family ranch in eastern Montana.
Mickie married Sonny Whiteman in November 1958 in Montana and with this union had two daughters, Cynthia and Camy. In July 1967, Mickie married Lyle Johnson in Rapid City and then moved to Australia to ranch with her parents. With this union they had a son, Randy.

Lawrence Kruse_________________________________

Lawrence Kruse, age 97, of Scenic, S.D., died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at his son’s home near Interior.
Lawrence Raymond Kruse was born in Mitchell on Aug. 31, 1916, to William and Lena Kruse. At the age of two they moved to the Badlands to a ranch eight miles north of Conata. At the age of nine his father died and Lena was left to raise her large family by herself.

Berdyne Parsons________________________________

Berdyne Parsons, age 82, of Philip, S.D., died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Berdyne Joanne Alys Peterson was born March 5, 1931, at the old Philip hospital, the 10th of 14 children born to Jacob Roger and Rena (Bettelyoun) Peterson. Her name Berdyne was from her dad’s Norwegian heritage, and she was his cousin, Berdyne Halse’s namesake. She grew up in the Philip area, and received her education in Philip.

George F. Gebes_________________________________

George F. Gebes, 98, of Batavia, Ill., passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at his home in the company of his family. Born to Frank and Bertha (nee Dirndorfer) on July 8, 1915, in Milesville, S.D.,
George grew up on the family ranch. He married Frances M. Lies on April 30, 1938, at St. Michael's Church in Wheaton. They built a life together for 72 years until her passing in 2011.

Donald D. Denke________________________________

Donald Dean Denke, Riverton, Wyo., formerly of Philip, S.D., was born June 24, 1938, to Reinhold and Rose (Helms) Denke. He was the sixth of 11 children on the farm near Pedro.
As a child, he worked on the family ranch, first learning to farm using horses, and then with tractors, which began his long love of anything with an engine. He told of working with his brothers, driving two tractors with a wire between them, dragging the wire across fields of certified seed alfalfa to assist in pollination.
He attended school at a rural school and was confirmed in the Lutheran church.

Richard P. Burns_______________________________

Richard “Rich” Burns, 62, of Lake Ida, Minn., and Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, November 30, 2013, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Rich was born in Philip, S.D., on April 10, 1951, the son of Donald and Shirley (Bever) Burns. He graduated from Philip High School in 1969. He married Sheila Douglas in June 1991. Rich lived in Fargo from 1969 until April 2013 when he and Sheila made their home on Lake Ida.
Rich graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in architecture in 1974. He was a licensed architect and contractor in many states.
