Mildred “Millie” Richter

Funeral services for Mildred “Millie” Lorraine (Hieb) Richter, 76 of Timber Lake will be at 10 a.m. MT Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the United Parish Church in Timber Lake. Burial will be at the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 6 p.m. at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Millie passed away October 20, 2013 at home after a long battle of heart complications.

Lillian “Lil” Briggs_____________________________

Lillian “Lil” Roberta (Petersen) Briggs, 89, of Ft. Pierre, S.D., was granted her angel wings on Thursday morning, October 17, 2013, in her home.
She was born on January 9, 1924, in Parade, to Arthur Peter and Amelia “Molly” (Simon) Petersen. She attended and graduated from Eagle Butte High School in Eagle Butte in 1942.

Homer G. “Tag” Taggart__________________________

Homer George “Tag” Taggart III, 78, died October 16, 2013, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood, Kan.
He was born April 10, 1935, at Midland, S.D., the son of H.George Jr. and Olive (Hogen) Taggart.
He owned and operated Mr. Tag’s Taxes and Bookkeeping, Great Bend. Mr. Taggart was a Great Bend resident since 1978, coming from Oklahoma.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict.
He was a life member of the NRA. He was an avid gun collector and was a volunteer chaplain at Great Bend Regional Hospital.

Fred Kost, 85, of Pierre, formerly of Eagle Butte, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Golden Living in Pierre. Visitation was Sunday, September 22 at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Butte with a Prayer Service at 6:00 pm. Services were held Monday, September 23 at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Butte with burial at the Eagle Butte Cemetery.

Meland wins state SPIRIT of CFEL Award

Edith Meland, Bison, is this year’s recipient of the prestigious statewide Spirit of CFEL award. The state organization for Community and Family Extension Leaders met in Huron last weekend for their annual convention. It was during that time that Meland was honored with the award.

Stuart Wilson__________________________________

Stuart Wilson, age 66 of Kadoka, S.D., died Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Stuart Arthur Wilson was born March 17, 1947, to Earl Reiger Wilson, Sr and Emily Kahaleihinano (Smith) Wilson in Cumberland, Md. He joined an older brother Earl Reiger Wilson, Jr. The family then returned to Hale’iwa on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaiian Islands. In the next few years, a sister, Karen Leilani, and brother, Steven Phillip, joined the family.

Youth Eagles sweep Buccaneers

The Eagles youth football teams played in Sturgis, Saturday, September 14, against the Sturgis Buccaneers. The Mitey Mites age bracket Eagles team cruised to a 34-0 victory. The Junior PeeWees age bracket Eagles team also won their game, 31-8. In the day’s last game, the PeeWees age bracket Eagles beat the Buccaneers Maroon team 20-0. Next week, the Eagles teams will host in Wall the Vikings of Rapid City starting at 1:00 p.m. Shown above is Ethan Burnett taking the ball wide on a reverse play in last week’s game against the Sturgis Buccaneers.

Beth M. Olson Long, age 93 of Midland, S.D., died Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Beth M. Nelson was born on December 20, 1919, to Garrison and Myrtle Bratton. At the age of two, Beth was put up for adoption along with her sister, Artis, at the Owatonna State Orphanage. Walter and Mabel Nelson of Minneapolis adopted Beth in 1923.
She married her high school sweetheart, Art Brown. Three sons were born to this union, Tommie, Kenny and Jimmie. Beth enjoyed Kenny and his daughter, Jill’s visits to the ranch during the summers.

Marlene Baker_________________________________

Marlene Baker, age 61, of Murdo, S.D., died Sunday, September 15, 2013, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Marlene Faye Rada was born June 19, 1952, the fifth of six children born to Earl “Shorty” and Ruth (Webb) Rada, at the Murdo hospital. Marlene nearly lost her life to pneumonia on more than one occasion.
Marlene attended all her schooling at Murdo, graduating from Murdo High School in 1970.
