Ramon L. "Ray" Jondro, age 79 of Rapid City, SD, died January 19, 2010, at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.

Ramon Lester "Ray" Jondro was born October 20, 1930, to Archie and Pearl (Amundson) Jondro in Duluth, MN.

Ray's youth and early adult life were spent in Duluth. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1948, then attended two years of junior college. He worked with his father in the family business at Jondro Motors off and on for several years.

He entered the Navy reserves in 1947, then joined the Army in 1951 serving in the Korean War.

One of the first items of business during the Philip City Council meeting Monday, May 3, was to approve the chamber of commerce's special events license application and amendment for Festival Days weekend, June 18-20.

After living in Austria for seven years under the rule of Adolf Hitler and three years of post-war Soviet control, 84-year-old Kitty Werthmann has been through the events most people only hear about.

Werthmann spoke to students at Philip High School Thursday, April 29.

In 1938, Austria was in a deep depression with 30 percent unemployment and 25 percent inflation and interest rates.

The location for six new home sites was approved by the Haakon County Board of Commissioners at their regular meeting Tuesday, May 4, 2010.

Tom Foley and Barney Pfeifer approached the commission with a plat for a housing development located approximately three miles north of Philip along Highway 73. The plat is set for six lots of six plus acres each. Currently a low maintenance county road borders the property.
