The Philip Scottie track and field team will have 17 members going to the State B Track and Field Meet in Rapid City on Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30.

The Region 7B Track Meet was held in Kadoka on Thursday, May 21. Out of nine schools competing, the Philip boys' team won the meet with 169 points. Second place went to Wall with 158. White River took a distant third with 86.

Philip High School senior Tara Ravellette shot a two day score of 178 to place eighth in this year's State B Girls Golf Tournament held in Watertown, SD, May 18 and 19.

Ravellette, who bettered her last year's 10th place finish by two places, shot rounds of 88 and 90. This was her fifth consecutive state golf tournament competition. After the first day she was in a tie for seventh place with Kylie Westover of Colman-Egan. Westover finished in 22nd place, shooting a 109 on the second day.

There were 91 women golfers competing in the tournament, which featured 15 seniors.

Marvin Eisenbraun, age 82 of Kadoka, SD, died May 23, 2009, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.

Services were held Wednesday, May 27, at the Kadoka City Auditorium, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.

Music was provided by Jo Christensen, pianist, Dale and Gene Christensen and Alma Crosbie and Alice Richter, vocalists. Eulogy was given by Cory Eisenbraun.

Ushers were Sterling Riggins, Wayland and Troy Eisenbraun. Pallbearers were Jason Schmit, Paul, Derek, Cory and Kyle Eisenbraun, Dustin Reutter, Krystal Ring and Angel Getz.

Clara Jane Wall, age 81 of Fredericksburg, Iowa died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at her home of cancerous melanoma.

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Pastor Shirley Will of the United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment was Friday, May 29, 2009, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.

Clara Jane Wall was born April 20, 1928, in Westfield, IA, the youngest daughter of Sid and Hattie (Thompson) Wynia. She joined four sisters and three brothers.

It is said, "It's in the blood," often involves generations. It is a contest where the idea is to stay on a horse or a bull without getting bucked off, or rope or wrestle one to the ground.

By July 1 of this year, the restructuring of how the state handles predator and other wildlife problems should be finalized.

The 23 job positions will still exist, but instead of 19 state trappers and four specialists, all 23 will be wildlife damage managers. They will all still work on dealing with predator and nuisance animal control. This concerns species such as coyote, mountain lion, skunk and other carnivores. The main concern for livestock producers in the west-central part of South Dakota is coyotes.

Actress Jayne Gottsleben will play the sloppy, headstrong and life-loving Olive Madison. Carmen Fees will play the neat-freak, insecure, and indescribably annoying Florence Unger. The linguini will fly and the audience will roar with laughter.

The Philip community theater group will perform the female version of The Odd Couple on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 5, 6 and 7. The shows will start at 7:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m.

A group of South Dakota State University students brought home nine awards from the Arrowhead Model United Nations Conference at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The SDSU students were awarded distinguished delegate awards, along with one for the Security Council and the other, the Distinguished Delegation award.

Brittany Westerberg helped represent Croatia as the social, cultural and humanitarian representative.

Over $60,000 worth of local scholarships were awarded to the Philip High School graduating class of 2009 during the graduation ceremonies on Sunday, May 17.

The Haakon School District 27-1 Board of Education has approved a tentative agreement adding Philip Health Services, Inc. to the geothermal well system.

Charles Ekstrum, a member of the PHSI board of directors, represented their intents during the school board meeting on Monday, May 18. "It's a very iffy project at this point. But we are getting permission from everyone involved before we do any further research," said Ekstrum.
