Henrie back from year-long Texas emergency room training

Professional training a family affair ... Jennifer, Terry and four-year-old Reese are back to Philip and Philip Health Services after a year-long Physician’s Assistant emergency room training course in San Antonio, TX.

Terry Henrie and his family have returned from San Antonio, TX, and his year-long Emergency Room training. They left at the end of August, 2007, and returned the end of June, 2008.

"At first, it felt like I was in over my head," said Physician's Assistant Henrie of Philip Health Services, Inc. (PHSI). "I was shocked by the realization of what I didn't know. I don't know it all now, but the training addressed some of the gaps."

Henrie's 12-hour work shifts were busy.


July 7th

Charles Prince, Sr.

Charles Prince, 68, of Ft. Pierre, died on Sunday, July 6, 2008, at his home west of Ft. Pierre.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. CT Thursday, July 10, at the First United Methodist Church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. CT Friday, July 11, at the First United Methodist Church with Burial at Scotty Philip Cemetery.

Charles Clyde Prince was born on November 9, 1939, to H.


Terry E. Hulce

Terry E. Hulce passed away on July 4, 2008, at Rapid City Regional Hospice of the Hills after a courageous battle with cancer. His loving family by his side.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City with Pastor Wilbur Holz officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with VFW Post 1273 providing military honors.

Terry was born February 6, 1949, to Emmer and Amy (Vernon) Hulce in Presho, SD. Terry grew up and graduated in Midland, SD.


Reuben L. Buxcel

Reuben L. Buxcel, age 94 of Kadoka, SD, died July 6, 2008, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 8, at the Belvidere Community Church in Belvidere with Larry Dolezal officiating.

Music was provided by Syd Iwan, organist, with congregational hymns.

Pallbearers were Jason Buxcel, Ryder Sanftner, Brady Beck, Dan Beck, Bill Eckert and Bill Manke. Ushers were Herman Bork and Tom DeVries.

Interment was in the Belvidere Cemetery.

Cheryl Simons

Cheryl Simons, age 60 of Enning, SD, died July 4, 2008, at her daughter's home in Elm Springs.

Cheryl had battled cancer for eight years with an inspiring attitude and courageous determination.

Family services were held Tuesday, July 8, at the Prairie Bible Church west of Enning.

Services were held Wednesday, July 9, at the Central Meade County Community Center at Union Center, with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating.

"The best thing about the State FCCLA meeting is what happens here," said Julie Bell, this year's state FCCLA advisor. "We develop student leadership skills and how to work as a team."

The 2008 Leadership Training for the Family Career Community Leaders of America was held at the Brucklacher compound near Philip on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 24 and 25. For the past six or seven years, the session has been held on the campus of South Dakota State University.


Philip has good showing at South Dakota High School Rodeo Finals in Belle Fourche

Eight Philip High School rodeo contestants placed high in the standings during the South Dakota High School Rodeo Finals in Belle Fourche, June 25 to 29.

Trey Fortune excelled in the Boys Cutting event. He took seventh in the second go, ninth in the short go and in the average. For the season he placed 11th. Trey saw action in two other events, steer wrestling and team roping.

Jade Nelson took second in the second go of calf roping and was 10th in the average.


Judy A. (Thorvaldson) Peters

A memorial service will be held for Judy A. (Thorvaldson) Peters, age 65, of Bloomington, MN, who passed away on July 3, 2007, after a courageous four-year battle with appendiceal cancer. The service will be held Thursday, July 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hilland Cemetery.

Judy is survived by her husband, Dennis; a son, Christopher (Michele); grandson Logan; mother Beulah; brother John (Janice); sister Karen (Gordon); many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Judy was a graduate of the Anker School of Nursing and University of Minnesota.


Bernice M. Cvach

Bernice M. Cvach, age 86 of Kadoka, SD, died June 24, 2008, at the Kadoka Nursing Home as a result of complications from Multiple Sclerosis.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 30, at the Belvidere Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary McCubbin officiating.

Music was provided by Syd Iwan, organist, and Chris Overgaard, soloist.

Usher was Leonard Carlson. Eulogy was given by Wesley Cvach. Register book attendant was Bonnie Madsen.
