The Philip Scotties tied the Wall Eagles 7-7 at the 2:25 mark in he first quarter, then trailed behind the rest of the game. Bouncing from 12 to just four points behind and then back again, the Scotties continually threatened to catch up, but never could quite do so.

The home crowd watched their Lady Scotties handily defeat the Rapid City Christian Comets on Tuesday, February 13. The final score was 64-33.

The Region 4B Wrestling Tournament held in Philip on Saturday, February, 17, went well for the Scotties. Philip put seven wrestlers in the finals and qualified nine total for the State B Wrestling Tournament.

Out of 14 team represented, the Philip team took first place at Regions with a team score of 150. The team had three individual first places, four second places, one third place and one fourth place.

Philip's head wrestling coach, Matt Donnelly, has been selected as Region 4B Coach of the Year for 2007.

The regular meeting for the Haakon School District 27-1 Board on Monday, February 19, began with an informative All-School Reunion overview by Mike and Marcia West.

The Wests, coordinators for the upcoming All-school Reunion to take place during the Philip Centennial Celebration, related to the board that the reunion will draw a large number of alumni. Plans are still growing, as is the number of attendee confirmations.

Tom Clements and his wife, Lacey, are no strangers to Wall and Philip. Both are natives to the area and known by members of both the Philip and Wall communities. Recently, Tom acquired Bieber Electric and renamed the company TLC Electric.

Decreasing poverty through leadership and city improvements is the goal of the Horizons II program.

The City of Philip was chosen as a participant in the Horizons II project. Residents have been working with the program since the middle of last year.

Last Thursday evening, February 15, a few local residents gathered for a meal and meeting about the next step in the program. Some of those in attendance were unsure of what the program is about.

The program started in 1998 after the Northwest Area Foun-dation, (NWAF), revamped its mission and awarding of grant dollars.

Crawling with slapstick humor and stage action, it takes the audience through a weekend in the lives of Francois and Mimi LaRoche, the French proprietors of an American chateau hotel.

The Scotties hosted the Rapid City Christian Comets on Friday, February 2, in a Western Great Plains boys basketball game. Philip took the win 64-35.

Philip now has a season record of 4-10 overall, and 2-5 in conference play.

The Scottie wrestlers hosted the Philip Quad Wrestling Tournament on Thursday, February 1. The three other teams participating were Custer Wildcats, Pine Ridge Thorpes and Red Cloud Crusaders.

The Philip girls' basketball team traveled to New Underwood on Saturday, February 3, to go up against the Lady Tigers in a Western Great Plains Conference game. The Scotties took the lead and held it for the entire game, coming home with a 43-36 win.

"Philip played real good defense," said New Underwood head coach Dallas Richter. "We had our chances. We just missed too many scoring opportunities, both on the floor and at the line."

New Underwood now stands with a 9-4 season record.
