The new lodge should be completed by next fall’s hunting season, but the guided hunting for clients-turned-friends has been evolving for years.

Bart and Marcy Ramsey have operated the South Fork Ranch as a ranch for years. As a matter of fact, Bart is the third generation owner/operator of the spread, and has been joined by his son, Chad, as the fourth generation. Also, his family has always enjoyed hunting.

On the news it was reported that the legislature, in their infinite wisdom, has seen fit to cut the budget for Public Broadcasting by a mere $500,000. This sizable cut in funding will turn off transmitters for Public Television in all of northwestern South Dakota and a good share of northcentral South Dakota.

’Tis the day for wearin’ ‘o’ the green. A day in which there is no discrimination. Black, red, yellow, white; at the bottom of four or five pitchers of green beer, everybody turns green.

St. Patrick’s Day is meant for fun. Sometimes too much fun. Take me, for instance; I have been know to go a wee bit too Irish. My reputation for jokes, tricks and mischief would challenge a leprechaun. My idea of the gold at the end of a rainbow is the look of “I’ll get even someday” on the face of a friend who has just fallen for a practical joke.

In their final game of this year’s boys’ basketball season, the Philip Scotties were defeated by the #1-seeded White River in District 13B play in Philip. The Tuesday evening game, which was played in front of a crowd of almost 1,200 spectators, ended with a score of 66-84.

The Scotties end their season with a record of 13 wins and eight losses.

Kenneth L. Taylor, age 87, of Prescott Valley, AZ, died Feb. 27, 2006, at Las Fuentes Care Center in Prescott.

Visitation was held March 1st at Sunrise Funeral Home with cremation to follow. No services are planned.

Kenneth was born Feb. 12, 1919, in Philip, SD.

Funeral services for Martin Luther Schofield, age 84, were held Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Casper, WY, with Pastor Mike Struck officiating. Interment followed in Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery with military honors by the Natrona County United Veterans Council and the Wyoming Army National Guard. Schofield passed away on February 27 at the Wyoming Medical Center from complications of diabetes.

Martin was born on August 3, 1921, at the family home in Midland, SD, the son of Harry C. Schofield and Flossie Belle Shawl Schofield.

Kenneth William "Bill" Kennedy, age 78, of Wall, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs.

At Bill's request, there was no visitation or funeral service. Graveside services were held Monday, March 6, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis with Pastor William Savery officiating.

Kenneth William "Bill" Kennedy was born January 31, 1928, in Philip, SD, the son of James and Hazel (Guptill) Kennedy. He grew up on a farm-ranch in the Grindstone area and attended the Cottonwood School for three years before moving into Wall.

Dolores B. Sharp, age 84, of Long Valley, South Dakota, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at her residence in Long Valley.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 7, at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Music for the service was provided by Jessica Green, Tyler Sharp, Boyd Porch, John Kaiser and Carl Bauman. Eulogy was given by Marty Sharp. Ushers were Terry Gropper and Perry Guptill.

Form, colors, background, highlights, technique – all these and more are what Joy Klima teaches. She teaches painting.

Her classroom is a spacious room in her basement converted into a studio and gallery. Her students are anyone who wishes to learn and/or improve their artistic skills. Her classes consist of two sessions, one in the spring and one in the fall, that meet for four consecutive Saturday mornings.

This year’s spring session has just concluded, and Klima is already inviting students for next fall’s session.

Almost everyone dreams of winning the lottery. Why not, since almost everybody takes a chance with “Lady Luck” every once in a while. Hey, sometimes simply getting out of bed can be a gamble.

We learn from the cradle to do things that are ruled by randomness. We love board games that include dice or a stack of cards where one commands “Go directly to jail, do not pass Go.” For fun, “Life” is based on chance, and to some degree, that could be literal.
