COTA exists to assist patients who require a life-saving organ, bone marrow, cord blood or stem cell transplant. It works with any patient who needs a transplant due to a genetic disease such as Cystic Fibrosis, and all patients 21 and younger for any disease or complication.

As of September 25, the Haakon County Public Health Nurse working for the South Dakota Department of Health is Heidi Burns. Also, there are new office hours.

Graduating from Philip High School, Burns has since earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from South Dakota State University. A Registered Nurse, Burns fills in at Philip Health Services when needed and is not working at the Public Health Office on the first floor of the county courthouse.

"I worked as a clerk in my dad's store after classes when I was in high school," said Burns.

Gertrude W. Woodard, age 89, of Long Valley, SD, died Sunday evening, November 26, 2006, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Friday.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 1, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Long Valley, with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Interment will be in the Long Valley Community Cemetery.

Everett Edward Hunt of Murdo passed away on November 20, 2006, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 93 years, 9 months. He was surrounded by family.

Services were held Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at the the United Methodist Church in Murdo with Pastor Bob Duemig officiating

Burial was in the Murdo City Cemetery.

Everett was born on February 4, 1913, to Warren and Elizabeth (Hans) Hunt on a farm near Verdel, NE, the third of eight children.

Memorial Mass for Margaret Ilove Sanftner was celebrated Saturday, November 25, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Kadoka, with Father Bryan Sorensen as celebrant. She passed away November 20, 2006.

Music for the service was provided by JoAnne Stilwell, pianist, with congregational hymns. Ushers were Jim and Danny Addison, Keith and Brett Bonenberger.

Interment was in the Belvidere Cemetery.

Margaret Ilove Jensen was born November 8, 1927, at her parents' home 12 miles south of Belvidere, the daughter of Jens F. and Goldie Irene (Walker) Jensen.

Julie P. Weiss, 89, of Mondovi, WI, died Saturday, November 18, 2006, at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi, with her family by her side.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Mondovi, with Fr. Jeffrey Burrill officiating.

Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

She was born February 11, 1917, in the town of Cranmoor, Wood County, WI, to William and Anna (Gotz) Peaslee.

Marie K. Illian, age 94, of Midland, died Thursday, November 23, 2006, at the Kadoka Care Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 27, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland, with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Music was provided by Kim Bierle, pianist, with congregational hymns. Ushers were Ivan Schilling and Kory Bierle. Pallbearers were Marie's grandchildren, Timothy, Joel, Mark, Jonathan and Josh Illian, Donald J.
