Walter H. Prahl

Walter H. Prahl, age 92, of Murdo, died Monday, May 23, 2005 at the Kadoka

Nursing Home.

Walter H. Prahl was born November 4, 1912, near Vera, South Dakota, the son of Rudolph and Dorthea (Kettelsen) Prahl. He was baptized on November 20, 1912 ,at Draper, South Dakota. Walt grew up in the Vivian area.

Walt was united in marriage to Mabel Ainslie on January 1, 1935, in Valentine, Nebraska.

They made their first home east of White Clay, Nebraska where they resided until 1936 when they moved to the farm southwest of Vivian.

Velma P. Hanson

Velma P. Hanson, age 83, of Philip, died Tuesday evening, May 17, 2005, at the Philip Nursing Home.

Services were held Monday, May 23, at the American Legion Hall in Philip with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Music was provided by Marilyn Millage, pianist, and Elvera Moos, vocalist. Ushers were Corwin “Corky” Thorson and Roy Pfeifer. Pallbearers were Scott, Matthew and Craig Johnson, Mark Hanson, Chad McCoy and Spencer Sudbeck.

Philip Chamber discusses missile site visitor center, fashion show, books, circus and welcome signs

The Philip Chamber of Commerce meeting was held Tuesday, May 17, having been postponed earlier due to the Philip High School concert.

The chamber meeting began with an update on the disputed location of the future Minuteman Missile Site Visitors’ Center. According to Chamber President Glenn Parsons, the State of South Dakota is now behind the proposed Interstate 90 Exit 131 location over the Exit 127 site. The federal government is also leaning in that direction.

Mr. and Mrs. Ganz get along soooo well. Claire Ganz is played by Kelly Baxter and Lenny Ganz is played by Del Bartels. Such refined humor and interpersonal communication is present throughout the Philip Drama Group play, “Rumors.”

The high-society party for Charley and Myra’s tenth wedding anniversary starts with a bang. The first party guests arrive to find Charley upstairs out cold with a gunshot through his ear, and they can’t find Myra at all.

The Philip Drama Group involves a wild cast of characters coming to a fancy dinner party. The audience has to figure out the real story through all the gossip, speculations and cover-ups. Faith Moldan – new intern at Ravellette Publications

Faith Moldan is the new intern at The Pioneer Review. She will be experiencing hands-on learning while she works in almost every facet of the weekly newspaper.

A senior at South Dakota State University in Brookings, Moldan is working toward a major in news-editorial journalism. She has always been more comfortable writing than speaking, though her minor is in Spanish. She helped with the newspaper at her St.

Three-day Weekend

I stand in a large field. I have been standing here since early morning. Summer has begun. School is recently out and today the nation begins celebrating with a three-day weekend.

Earlier, as I was leaving home, a neighboring couple and their children were energetically loading a camper. They were all set for the extra day of not having to work. One of the parents waved at me and asked me what I was going to do with the extra time. I said I was going to visit my son. They smiled and nodded that that was good. They then quickly volunteered everything that they were going to do.

Philip High School graduation held May 15th

Jackie Smith smiled through the tears during her reminiscing of good times and good friends.
