When the Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee last met, the committee pledged $25,000 to the South Dakota Rural Enterprise Inc., which is a matching funds program. Philip and other communities will put up money. The money will be pooled and leveraged to a total of $250,000. The goal is to have $1,000,000 pledged from all sizes of area communities by August, 2005.

Since Philip belongs to the Central South Dakota Enhancement District, another $500,000 in loan funds is also available.

Neal “Obie” Brunskill took over the vacant Haakon County Commissioner seat at their March 1 meeting. Brunskill filled the seat vacated by Darrel Terkildsen earlier this year.

Haakon County Highway Superintendent Kenny Neville gave the board a copy of a contract drawn up by the City of Philip. The contract dealt with a water users agreement between the two entities.

The county highway shop is heated by water from the city’s well.

It definitely will not be a surprise, but it will be quite the party.

On Saturday, March 5, the town of Philip and other well-wishers from in-state and out-of-state will honor Dr. George J. Mangulis. His loyalty to his profession and his 50 years of loyalty to the Philip area will be noted by many, many people.

The doors of the fine arts building of the Philip High School officially open at 2:00 p.m. for cake and coffee and punch. But, the building will be a place of activity long before that.
