A pickup stolen from a local body shop was taken for a joy ride in the early morning hours of Thursday, August 24. Les’ Body Shop in Philip was burglarized between 12:30 and 1:45 a.m., according to law enforcement officials.

It was reported that someone was driving recklessly and squealing their tires. Black tire marks can still be seen in different areas of Philip.

Philip police officer David Butler was driving by Les’ Body Shop and noticed an open overhead door. He contacted Mike Noteboom, the shop owner, about the possibility of having accidentally left the door open.

Colleen Su (Dale) Krueger, age 39, of Palm Springs, CA, died August 6, 2005 as a result of a motorcycle accident in Los Angeles, CA.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 8, at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip, with Pastor Brad Kattelmann officiating.

Rush Funeral Home of Philip is in charge of arrangements. Colleen Su Dale was born in Seoul, South Korea, on February 17, 1966. She came to the United States and joined the Denny Dale family October 25, 1969. She became a U.S. citizen two years later.

Kimberli "Kim" K. (Young) Reeves, 44, Highmore, SD, made her appearance into the world on June 2, 1961, in Rapid City, SD, to Gerald and Janice (Keller) Young.

After a six-year battle with cancer, Kim went home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2005.

Funeral services were Monday, August 22, at the Parkview Gym in Ft. Pierre with Pastor Paul Bly and Chaplain Dodie Noordermeer officiating.

Burial was in the Scotty Philips Cemetery.

Florence M. Sanftner, age 90, of Belvidere, died Tuesday, August 09, 2005 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Florence M. Weis was born November 12, 1914, at Plattsmouth, Nebraska, the only child of Raymond and Florence (Wolf) Weis. She received her education in Tripp and Gregory counties, Iowa, Ohio, and California. In the course of her education, she attended eighteen different schools.

Merritt E. Patterson, age 93, of Wall, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at the Clarkson Mt. View Health Care Facility in Rapid City.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 6, at the United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brad Kattelmann officiating.

Music for the service was provided by Carol Hahn, prelude/ postlude pianist; Rita Patterson, pianist; Gene, Dean, Dale and Gale Patterson, vocalists; with congregational hymns.

Ushers were Lauren and Eric Kasuske and Bernard Foster.

Herma R. Marsden, age 84, of Wall, died Saturday, August 6, 2005, at her residence in Wall.

Closed-casket visitation will be held 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Friday.

Pearl A. Wilsey, age 61, of Philip, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at her residence in Philip.

Pearl Ada Page was born August 20, 1943 in Martin, South Dakota, the daughter of Daniel and Juanita L. (Estes) Page. She grew up near Allen, South Dakota, and attended grade school at the Salway Country School and then attended and graduated from Bennett County High School in May 1961.

Pearl was united in marriage to Wesley Wilsey in September of 1961. After their marriage, they ranched northeast of Wall, near the Cheyenne River.

My kids and I look forward to and enjoy the sounds, crowds of people, bright lights and variety of a fair. I insist that the kids eat a meal before we go so I don’t have to buy every treat in sight. My plans never do work out right. And, I guess, what is a fair or carnival without cotton candy, snowcones, popcorn, huge pickles or barbecue sandwiches? You don’t have such things every day.

Fairs are extraordinary. That is what makes them so special. You don’t hear those particular sounds, say, at a basketball tournament. Sports have their own smells, sounds, tastes and atmospheres.

The doors are open, the doctor is in and patients are being seen.

Housed in the south section of the Kadoka Nursing Home facility (the former Sundet Memorial Hospital), the Kadoka Clinic held its ribbon cutting ceremony Monday, August 1st.

It was a long time coming, with a number of hurdles, but after four months of renovation it is no longer just a dream to have a new clinic in Kadoka.

The Kadoka Clinic is owned and operated by Philip Health Services, which rents the space from the Kadoka Nursing Home Association.

On August 16, Philip Home Health Services will have served the surrounding community for 10 years since it gained its official certification through federal Medicare.

Director Marcy Ramsey said that her staff will probably not have any large celebration, probably have a little extra chocolate and coffee on hand for anyone dropping by.

Home Health provides short-term care through a number of services in a client’s home.
