The Philip Postmistress warned the Philip City Council of problems that could occur should the hospital place a mailbox on the street. Jodi Kammerer appeared at the Monday evening meeting to discuss with the council the proposed hospital mailbox along Pine Street.

At the July meeting Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital Administrator Dave Dick met with the council in regards to placing a mailbox along the street to receive mail that has been sent back due to the wrong address.

The Friends of the West River Museum have reorganized the former in an effort to save the museum pieces and keep the museum open.

The museum will be open during Festival Days, August 6-7-8, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. each day.

Volunteers were busy this week moving items to the building just south of the former museum (on North Center Ave.) in an effort to keep the museum open and public interest alive.

The board met on July 13th to discuss problems with the Hillside Hotel location.

Frank J. Kocer, 83, of Hot Springs, died June 20, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Ft. Meade.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, August 2, 2004 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.

Frank was born on March 30, 1921, in Gordon, NE, to Frank Sr. and Bina (Madson) Kocer.

Frank attended the Hot Springs grade and high school and also graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management at MSU in 1949.

He left Hot Springs early in 1941, and was deployed out to Camp Claiborne, LA, with the National Guard.

Mavis Isabel Neiderworder, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Bella Vista Nursing Home in Rapid City, SD.

Mavis was born April 21, 1921, to Paul and Miriam Griesel.

She married Morris Neiderworder on Oct. 19, 1942. For most of their married life they lived on a ranch northeast of Philip, SD, where they raised seven children.

In 1971, they moved to Hermosa, and several years later they moved just outside of Rapid City.

Mavis was a faithful member and servant of Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City. She was a member of Altar Guild and Martha Circle for many years.

Brigitte Brucklacher, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) advisor at Philip High School, was recently recognized as a 2004 Adviser Mentor for having achieved the level of Master Adviser. She has devoted two years to new adviser assistance, assuming adult leadership roles in FCCLA, conducting adviser workshops, attending training sessions and using national and state FCCLA resources.

Nationwide, there are over 7,300 advisers for FCCLA.

The Region 4B VFW Baseball Tournament will be held in Philip on Tuesday, Wednesday, August 3 and 4, and Saturday, August 7, if necessary.

Brittany Westerberg, left, and Heather Finn were notified recently that they had both qualified for the South Dakota Honors Choir. Westerberg, a senior at Philip High School, and Finn, a junior, will arrive on the campus of the University of Sioux Falls on Sunday, August 1, to begin a week of rehearsals under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Jerry Blackstone. The S.D. Honors Choir concert will be held Friday, August 6, at 7:30 p.m. (CT) on the USF campus. The girls had to audition for the distinction of being a part of this elite choir.

Descendents of Harris Howard and Grace Williams gathered at the Triangle Ranch homestead over the weekend to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the ranch.

The occasion also marked the sixtieth wedding anniversary of Jess and Velma Williams and the thirty-fifth anniversary for Kenny and Lyndy Ireland.

Jess Williams is one of the three surviving members of the third generation of the Williams family and Lyndy (Williams) Ireland is a member of the fourth generation.
