Louise F. Rowcliffe

Louise F. Rowcliffe, age 85, of Philip, died Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Philip Nursing Home.
Louise F. Millar was born March 8, 1929, in Kennebec, S.D., the daughter of Fredrick and Gladys (Jones) Millar. As a child she moved with her parents and siblings to Martin, where she received her education. In 1942, they moved to Custer for two years before moving to Igloo. In 1946, they moved back to Bennett County near Martin. In August 1947, Louise moved to Philip where she was employed with West Central Electric as a clerk and secretary.

Helen Mihills Gabbert

Helen Mihills Gabbert, 93, Dickinson, died Friday, December 19, 2014 at CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dickinson, N.D., following a brief illness.
Helen’s funeral service was held Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Dick Rinearson officiating. Burial took place at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.
Helen Gravatt was born to Roy and Olga (Stensbol) Gravatt in Chamberlain, S.D., on May 4, 1921. She grew up in small towns throughout South Dakota before graduating from Rapid City (S.D.) High School in 1942.

Midwest’s Phase 1 makes new skyline

The continueing Cenex Harvest States projects being done as modernizations and improvements to the Midwest Cooperative complex in Philip have reached another visible milestone. Phase I of the new grain bin project has the outside shells of the two new bins up.

Allevia L. “Dolly” Gillespie

Allevia Louise “Dolly” Gillespie, 85, of Spearfish, S.D., passed away on December 24, 2014, at Kindred Nursing and Rehab Center in Riverton, Wyo., where she had been a resident for the past 13 months.
Allevia Gillespie was born May 30, 1929, in Philip to Roy and Laura Royer. She was the center of their lives, as well as to her great-grandparents, Robert and Minnie Hanrahan. She was raised on the family ranch north of Philip. She graduated from St. Martin’s Academy in Sturgis in 1947.

Donald E. Muckler

Donald Earl Muckler, 94, passed away December 30, 2014. His final days were spent with his wife and family at his home in Rapid City, S.D.
Donald was born May 2, 1920, to Earl T. Muckler and Zina F. Muckler of Bonita Springs. He grew up and attended school in Rapid City. He then spent some time building planes in California before returning to the family farm, where he met his wife.

Kelly J. Vollmer

Kelly Joe Vollmer was born February 4, 1972, in Kadoka, S.D., the son of Rodney and Deborah (Bartels) Vollmer.
Kelly enjoyed motorcycles, and loved to fish. He was a master carpenter, was very talented in a variety of things, including pool which he placed second at the 2001 state pool championship. His family was very important and he loved his sister Ashley very much. For a number of years, he had his faithful companion, his dog, Candy.

Lois A. Pigsley

Lois A Pigsley, 87, Rapid City, S.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
She was born March 10, 1927, in New Underwood to Albert and Florence (Johnson) Wilsey and she moved to Rapid City at a young age.
Lois is survived by six grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren and a great-great-great granddaughter; two brothers, Larry and Roger Wilsey, and two sisters, Doris Reed and Audrey Webb.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elra; her son, Ellsworth “Toot” Pigsley, and a brother.

Margaret “Peggy” Drury

Margaret “Peggy” Drury, age 85, of Philip, S.D., died Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Margaret J. “Peggy” O’Neal was born July 29, 1929, in Philip, the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Robinson) O’Neal. She grew up and received her education in Philip, graduating from Philip High School in 1948.

Eileen G. Heinsohn

Eileen G. Heinsohn, age 89, of Kadoka, died Friday evening, January 2, 2015, at the Philip Nursing Home.
Eileen G. Fisher was born March 1, 1925, on her parents’ homestead eight miles south of Kadoka, the daughter of Kenard D. Fisher, Sr. and Elsie Marie (Enders) Fisher. She grew upon the farm-ranch and received her education at the Wells Community Rural School. As a young lady, she raised sheep on her parents’ ranch.
Eileen was united in marriage to Rollin Heinsohn on October 11, 1972, in Kadoka. They made their home on the C.D. Uhlir Ranch where Rollin was a ranch hand.

Deacon Eugene A. Heckathorne

Deacon Eugene A. “Gene” Heckathorne, age 87, of Rapid City, S.D., died December 24, 2014, at the Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.
Eugene A. Heckathorne was born June 21, 1927, at Watertown, the son of Eugene E. and Jessie (Reese) Heckathorne. During the early 1930s, they moved to Kranzburg.
