Craig A. Reagle

Craig Anthony Reagle was born March 22, 1979, at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, NE. He was the second child of three children. He lived in Hidden Timber, SD, until 1987 when the family moved to the Lone Hill community near Mission, SD.

Craig attended grade school at Klein School in the Hidden Timber community until the beginning of second grade when he moved to North Elementary in Mission. He completed the remaining years through high school in Mission, graduating from Todd County High School in 1998.


LaVonne D. "Vonnie" Foreman

LaVonne "Vonnie" Foreman, age 75, of Kadoka, died December 15, 2007, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, at the Belvidere Presbyterian Church in Belvidere, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.

Music will be provided by Syd Iwan, organist, and Kim Foreman, vocalist.


Frederick J. Zebroski

Frederick John Zebroski, age 54, of Lander, WY, formerly of Philip, died December 13, 2007, in Lander.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, December 18, at the Lander Community Center.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 20, at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Mark Ford and Pastor Scott MacNaughton officiating.

Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Philip.

Frederick John Zebroski was born July 8, 1953, the son of Raymond and Frances (Weischedel) Zebroski, in Pierre.


Commissioners wrap up 2007

The Haakon County Commissioners met Wednesday, December 26th to finalize the year 2007.

The board approved the final claims of the year along with travel requests. They also approved liquor renewals for T-34, the Philip Legion Hall and the Lake Waggoner Golf Course Clubhouse.

They discussed with Haakon County Highway Superintendent Kenny Neville the condition of the county's mowers. The two mowers are currently more than 20-years-old. They are both in bad condition and some of their parts are obsolete.


At 2007 year-end meeting, Philip City Council anticipates Missouri River water

The Philip City Council held its year-end meeting in the Commissioner's Room of the Haakon County Courthouse on Thursday, December 27th.

Members of the board of directors of West River/Lyman-Jones Rural Water System and other representatives addressed the council. They congratulated their partnership with Philip and all the people who played a part in the long project of getting Missouri River water to this area. The piping is now in place.


HEA auction based on celebrity donations

The Haakon Education Association (HEA) will hold an auction of celebrity-donated items on January 20, 2008, in the Fine Arts Building, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

The organization is raising the final amount of funds necessary to purchase the centerpiece large play system for the elementary playground. There are 17 HEA members who include teachers, support staff, retired teachers and substitutes. Many non-members have also been helping with the playground equipment project.

So far, eight pieces of equipment have already been installed.

Gloria E. Montgomery

Gloria E. Montgomery, age 78, of Kadoka, formerly of Quinn, SD, died Sunday November 25, 2007, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.

Gloria Monaco was born January 31, 1929, at Anaconda, MT, the daughter of Angelo and Maria (Farrace) Monaco. She grew up in Anaconda where she graduated form high school in 1946. She then graduated from college at Havre, MT. She taught elementary school for several years.

Gloria was united in marriage to Thomas Montgomery on June 10, 1950, in Coeur D'Alene, ID. They made their home in Butte and Helena, MT, in Chile, in New Mexico and in Globe, AZ.


Lyle Melvin

HOWELL, Mich. - Lyle Melvin, 87, passed away November 20, 2007, at his home in Howell, MI.

He was born July 29, 1920, in Wall, SD, to Patrick and Cecilia Melvin. He grew up on the family farm north of Wall.

He enlisted in the Marines during WWII and after receiving a medical discharge, went to Long Beach, CA, to join his fiancée and work in the shipyards. He was married to Gwenda Sieh on November 28, 1942, in Long Beach, CA. They were planning a celebration of their 65th wedding anniversary at the time of his death.


Donald Bergeson

Don Bergeson, 79, of Pierre, died Friday, November 23, 2007, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Services will be held Thursday, November 29, at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre at 10:00 a.m. CT, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Donald was born on January 7, 1928, southwest of Hayes to Arthur and Mary (Olesen) Bergeson. He grew up in Hayes where he attended grade school. He then went to T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre where he graduated in 1947.

He was united in marriage to Gretha Floyd on September 2, 1950, at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre.


Philip and Midland to have Missouri River water

It may have taken a little longer than anticipated but Missouri River water will soon be flowing through area water lines.

Late last week, West River/ Lyman-Jones Rural Water System employees were taking the final steps that will hook-up a pipeline that will supply Philip with water from the Missouri River. As of Wednesday, November 21, 2007, they were laying pipeline within feet of the tank.

By early 2008, the river water will begin flowing into the Philip reservoir north of town.
