The Reverend Donald A. Olson, 76, of Marquette, NE, died Monday, June 5, 2006, as a result of an automobile accident near Central City, NE.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 9, at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church near Phillips with the Rev. Mark Dunham officiating. Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery.

Donald was born on Feb. 21, 1930, to Joe E. and Alice T. (Nelson) Olson in Aurora, Neb. He grew up in Aurora and attended school there. He furthered his education at Bob Jones University.

Viola Herrman, age 95, of Philip, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Visitation will be held 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.

Darleen Y. Jost, age 74, of Murdo, died Monday, June 5, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, June 9, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Murdo, with Father Timothy Castor as celebrant.

Music was provided by Janet Widvey, organist, Donna Erikson, vocalist, and congregational hymns, “Amazing Grace”, “Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art”. Register book attendants were Jackie Fosheim and Jody Lebeda. Ushers were Bill Philips and David Venard. Pallbearers were D.J.

Alvina A. Brown, age 86, of Kadoka, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 10, at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Music was provided by Randi Oyan, pianist, with congregational hymns “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Ushers were Tom Terkildsen and Paul Briggs. Pallbearers were John, Butch and Paul Oien, Russell Dean, Gerard Magelky and Mark Heltzel.

Interment was in the South Creek Cemetery near Kadoka.

Jack Evans, age 79, of Midland, formerly of Interior, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at his residence in Midland.

Graveside services were held Saturday, June 10, at the Nowlin Cemetery west of Midland, with Pastor Ann Schlossnagle officiating.

Pallbearers were Ty, Tel and Talon Saucerman, Slate, Jace and Jadd Evans and Matthew Kirby.

Following the graveside services, a time of fellowship will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland.

Howard H. Johannesen, age 62, of Quinn, died Monday, June 19, 2006, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Howard H. Johannesen was born November 21, 1943, in Kadoka, South Dakota, the son of Harry Edward and Thelma (Chadwick) Johannesen. Howard grew up on the family farm east of Quinn, where he lived his entire life. He received his elementary education at the Hiway School across the road from the ranch, and graduated in the last graduating class from Quinn High School in 1961.

Participants have been announced for Class IV of South Dakota Agriculture and Rural Leadership (SDARL). The 32 participants selected from across South Dakota include Lola Roseth of Midland and Bill Slovek of Philip. “I am elated and honored to be chosen for this program,” said Lola Roseth.

“I know some people who have been in earlier classes,” said Slovek. “They are forward-thinking, optimistic people; the kind I like to be around. They encouraged me to interview for the course.”

The SDARL course consists of 12 seminars over a two-year period.

National Incident Management System (NIMS) classes are scheduled to be held at the Philip Fire Hall on June 27 at 8:00 a.m.

The Haakon School District 27-1 Board of Education meeting on July 19th got right to business.

Previous minutes, the financial reports, purchases, and the final reading of the new wellness policy were quickly approved.

The contract for therapy services with Children’s Care Hospital was approved. Evaluation of students in, or possibly going into, the special education programs must be conducted by qualified and licensed specialists.

A bank that is made aware of a fraudulent operation will alert other banks about the illegal scheme.
