Mni Wiconi Missouri River water pipeline opened to Philip area by way of WR/L-J

400 gallons per minute ... Former mayor Mike West opens the valve that now brings treated Missouri River water to the City of Philip. For several more months, the water in the 948,000 gallon tank will be 80/20 Missouri water and water from the current Creighton and Quinn wells.

The pipeline connecting the Mni Wiconi water project to the City of Philip was officially opened during a special ceremony at the Philip water tank on Wednesday, February 20th.

Treated Missouri River water is now being pumped to the water storage tank just north of Philip. At 2:00 p.m. the pipeline was opened and it began bringing in 300 gallons per minute. Within a half of an hour that pressure had edged up to 350 gpm.

Louise Fitzgerald

Louise Fitzgerald, age 87 of Milesville, SD, died February 14, 2008, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Services were held Tuesday, February 19, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Pastor Frezil Westerlund officiating.

Music was provided by Marilyn Millage, pianist, and Barb Bowen, vocalist. Ushers were Dawn Nipp and Kirsten Stilwell.

Pallbearers were Dallas Fitzgerald, Colt Fitzgerald, Erika LeBeau, C.J.

Agnes Sandall

Agnes Johnson was born July 9, 1914 at Letcher, South Dakota, the daughter of Chris and Louise (Ness) Johnson. When she was two years old the family moved back to Norway where she started her elementary education. The family then moved back to South Dakota and settled on a farm-ranch northeast of Kadoka. She grew up on the farm-ranch and graduated from Kadoka High School. Agnes attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls for two years where she received her teaching certificate. She taught rural schools in the Kadoka area for four years and taught thirty-six years at Kadoka School.

Elizabeth Shearer

Elizabeth Shearer, age 97, of Wall, better known as "Gammies" to her family and friends, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2008, at Custer Regional Senior Care Center.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, and one hour preceding the services at the church on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m.

Blanche L. Young

Blanche L. Young, age 86, Philip, SD, formerly of Morris and Beardsley, MN, was called to her heavenly home on February 14, 2008, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Memorial services for Blanche will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, at St.

Louie Grimes, age 89, of Kadoka, SD, died February 16, 2008, at the Hans P.

Scottie boys fall to Rapid City Christian Comets, 51-61

The Philip Scotties traveled to Rapid City Christian to challenge the Comets on Friday, February 1st. The final score of the Great Western Plains Conference basketball game was 51-61 against the Scotties.

Scottie boys lose to Lyman

The Philip boys traveled to Presho on Friday, February 8th, to go against the Lyman Raiders in a Western Great Plains boys basketball game. The final score was 43-87 in favor of Lyman.

Lady Scotties walk over Jones County, 45-28

The Lady Scotties invited the Jones County Coyotes to a basketball game on Tuesday, February 5th. That invitation was to the Coyotes' own defeat.

The Scotties made the first basket. Within seconds the Coyotes made their own to tie the score. This was to be the only close part of the game. The Scotties used the low scoring first quarter to learn the abilities and weaknesses of their opponents. The other quarters were a steady walk-away by Philip. One of the more exciting moments was a successful three pointer launched by Jones County at the halftime buzzer.
