Arnold C. Wolden

Arnold C. Wolden, age 95, of Philip, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, with his family at his side.
Arnold C. Wolden was born to Johanna (Running) and Anton Wolden on January 7, 1918 at home in Union County, South Dakota near Elk Point. Both of his parents emigrated from Norway. On March 9, 1930 the Wolden family moved to Philip from Beresford, SD, driving 2 Model T Fords, a 1918 and 1925 touring car. The family had loaded two box cars with livestock, machinery, and household goods.


Anthony J. “Tony” Quinn

Anthony J. "Tony" Quinn passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Custer Regional Senior Care.
Anthony was always proud to say that he was from Hudson Flat, 45 miles northeast of Philip. He was born December 4, 1929, to Peter and Charlotte (Phalen) Quinn. He was the youngest of five children, Jack, Margaret, Elizabeth and Leo.
In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and took Basic Training in Kentucky. After that, he was stationed in France, but due to medical issues he was medically discharged and came home to South Dakota in 1953.


Winona Bell Carson

Winona Bell Carson, age 94 of Kadoka, S.D., died Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Kadoka Nursing Home.
Winona Bell Ogle was born November 14, 1918, in Brownlee, Neb., the daughter of Charles L. and Jessie (Vian) Ogle. She grew up on a ranch 35 miles southeast of Valentine, Neb., where she attended rural school. As a young lady, she herded sheep for her grandfather, Vian.
